At the Eurovision Song Contest there is also room for a bit of alt-rock music with Finnish post-hardcore band Blind Channel and their song “Dark side”.
Formed in 2013, the group comprised of Joel Hokka, Niko Moilanen, Joonas Porko, Olli Matela, Tommi Lalli and Aleksi Kaunisvesi.
Just a year after its formation, the band ended up performing at some of the world’s most famous heavy metal festivals, including Germany’s Wacken Open Air, after which the band signed their first record deal.
Blind Channel have released three albums so far. Also in 2018 they received an EMMA (Finland’s answer to the Grammys) in the rock of the year category.
About “Dark side”, singer Niko said: “‘Dark side’ is a song that’s meant to be performed together with an audience, as a kind of communal experience. Now we needed to find that audience – and we knew that there were lots of people out there who felt exactly like we did”.
