Dua Lipa fans, our girl is finally back with brand new material. And no, this isn’t just another single from her debut album … this is the beginning of a new era for the singer-songwriter-model who’s blessed us with “Be the one”, “IDGAF” and, now, “Don’t start now”.
The track, produced by Ian Kirkpatrick, is a disco-inspired song with lyrics that addresses an ex-lover about moving on from a relationship.
In a statement, Dua said of the song: “It’s quite nostalgic, it’s very disco influenced, it’s quite different to my other stuff. But it’s still a pop record. It just felt like the right song to lead with, and I’m really excited about it because I feel like it paints exactly the picture that I wanted for people to really get.”
“I chose to put this song out first so I could close one chapter of my life and start another. Into a new era with a new sound!” she continued. “It’s about moving on and not allowing anyone to get in the way of that. It also felt like a natural first song choice as I made it with the brilliant same crew I made ‘New Rules’ with”.
The music video for “Don’t start now” was directed by Nabil (Bruno Mars, Kanye West, The Weeknd) and takes place in two different locations: a nightclub and a masked ball.
Dual Lipa’s second album is expected to be launched sometime next year.

Lyrics:

If you don’t wanna see me

Did a full 180, crazy
Thinking ’bout the way I was
Did the heartbreak change me? Maybe
But look at where I ended up
I’m all good already
So moved on, it’s scary
I’m not where you left me at all, so

If you don’t wanna see me dancing with somebody
If you wanna believe that anything could stop me

Don’t show up, don’t come out
Don’t start caring about me now
Walk away, you know how
Don’t start caring about me now

Aren’t you the guy who tried to
Hurt me with the word “goodbye”?
Though it took some time to survive you
I’m better on the other side
I’m all good already
So moved on, it’s scary
I’m not where you left me at all, so

If you don’t wanna see me dancing with somebody
If you wanna believe that anything could stop me
(Don’t, don’t, don’t)

Don’t show up, don’t come out
Don’t start caring about me now
Walk away, you know how
Don’t start caring about me now (‘Bout me now, ’bout me)

Up, up
Don’t come out, out, out
Don’t show up, up, up
Don’t start now (Oh)
Up, up
Don’t come out, out
I’m not where you left me at all, so

If you don’t wanna see me dancing with somebody
If you wanna believe that anything could stop me

Don’t show up (Don’t show up), don’t come out (Don’t come out)
Don’t start caring about me now (‘Bout me now)
Walk away (Walk away), you know how (You know how)
Don’t start caring about me now (So)

Up, up
Don’t come out, out, out
Don’t show up, up, up
Walk away, walk away (So)
Up, up
Don’t come out, out, out
Don’t show up, up, up
Walk away, walk away, oh
