Country-pop artist Levi Hummon dropped a new single titled “Rock and roses”.
The track, co-written by Hummon with Ben Wells, follows “The story”, Tracy Chapman’s cover “Fast car” and “Wedding dress”.
In a recent interview, the Nashville singer-songwriter explained the tune and said: “I wrote “Rock and roses” last August when I was going through a pretty rough breakup. It’s funny how songwriting can really get you through the worst times. Feelings of regret can be made a little better when you talk about it and especially when you write about it. Now this song feels like part of the story and a reminder that these feeling of sadness during a breakup don’t last forever”.

Lyrics:

One foot in one foot out
How stupid was I for that
And how did I go and mess it up
I can’t black out can’t forget
All those nights and not be sad
Who taught me to be so dumb

Why wouldn’t I take time
To meet your mom and your dad
Just drive over when you’re sad
Now I get why you don’t want me back
Yeah it’s too bad

Cause a rock and roses
Can’t fix what is broken
Didn’t know what I was holding
Til I let you walk let you walk away
Yeah I think I made a big mistake
Oh we’re maybe better off this way
But now we’ll never know it
Cause I didn’t get a rock and roses
Rock and roses

Where you at where you been
Do you think about when
We were more anymore
Or am I just your ghost
I can’t wake up and I can’t sleep
Yeah I picture us somewhere in a dream
Me on a knee and you in a dress
Our first little house and a white picket fence

Cause a rock and roses
Can’t fix what is broken
Didn’t know what I was holding
Til I let you walk let you walk away
Yeah I think I made a big mistake
Oh we’re maybe better off this way
But now we’ll never know it
Cause I didn’t get a rock and roses
Rock and roses

Put a rock on your finger
Roses in a vase
One more hour in a day
Spent with you
Have convinced you
That we were meant to be

Cause a rock and roses
Can’t fix what is broken
Didn’t know what I was holding
Til I let you walk let you walk away
Yeah I think I made a big mistake
Oh we’re maybe better off this way
But now we’ll never know it
Cause I didn’t get a rock and roses
Rock and roses
