1. Vision of love
Written by Mariah herself when she was 17 with producer-friend Ben Margulies, the beautiful ballad is the lead single from her debut album “Mariah Carey”. It won the 1990 Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female. Carey also won the Best New Artist Grammy for that year.
2. Hero
Originally written for Gloria Estefan to be included on Dustin Hoffman movie “Hero”, the song was released as the second single from Mariah’s 1993 album “Music Box” becoming an istant favourite among Carey fans.
It reached No 1 in US and Canada, and top ten in many countries.
3. Without you
Released in 1994, this cover of a Harry Nilsson classic provided Carey her first number one single on the UK chart. Mariah said that she decided to cover the song when she heard it in a restaurant.
The music video is a live performance where you can hear the audience revving up during each crescendo of the chorus.
4. Fantasy
“Fantasy” is a R&B dance pop track taken from Mariah’s fifth album “Daydream”. It samples Tom Tom Club’s 1981 hit “Genius of Love”.
The music video, shot near Long Island where the artist grew up, shows her rollicking at an amusement park.
Additionally, it was released an official remix featured rapper and producer Ol’ Dirty Bastard.
5. We belong together
This ballad is R&B/soul perfection. Taken from Mariah’s tenth studio album “The emancipation of Mimi”, it was number one on the Billboard charts for 14 weeks becoming the one of the second longest running number one songs in US chart history, behind only herself with 1995 collaboration with Boyz II Men, “One sweet day”, which spent sixteen weeks at number one.
Also “We belong together” won 2005 Grammys for Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
