Steps took the world by storm with their dance-pop hits in the Nineties and early Noughties.
Now Lee, Claire, H, Faye and Lisa are back with a new fantastic single “Scared of the dark”.
The track, written by Carl Ryden and Fiona Bevan, was premiered on The Ken Bruce Show on BBC Radio 2 yesterday.
It serves as first single from their fifth studio album “Tears on the dancefloor”, which marks band’s 20th anniversary.
The album is expected to feature songwriters who have previously worked with the likes of One Direction, Little Mix and Years & Years, as well as Abba’s Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson.
About it, Lisa said: “We’ve always had that comparison with Abba so it’s amazing to work with Benny and Bjorn. When we heard the special album track they gave to us we said, ‘that’s perfect’. It’s a bridge to where we were and it moves on nicely to where we’re taking the new music.”
The Abba track “Story of a heart” is a cover originally performed by Benny Anderssons Band, and written and composed by Benny and Bjorn.
“Tears on the dancefloor” is out on April 21.
In addition to the album’s release, Steps also announced a 15-date tour “Party on the dancefloor” with Vengaboys as special guests.
