“Pretty Head” is the latest release of Transviolet from their EP “Kaleidoscopes”.
The track is about the oppression of women in our society and their pressure to be pretty.
On Facebook, frontwoman Sarah McTaggart, who is also the director of the accompanying video, said: “I wrote this song in response to all the times the conversation was derailed into how I looked instead of what I thought. I wrote it in response to the guy that asked my bandmates what it was like to be on tour with someone who bleeds”.
She added: “I wrote this to fill the silence left when some guy made a sexist joke and I didn’t laugh. I wrote it in honor of all the women who came before me, who fought for my right to be heard, who were too loud, too aggressive and too “unladylike”. I hope it inspires you revel in all that is you, the beautiful complexity that is bizarre, unrefined, and wondrous”.
“Pretty head” follows “Kaleidoscopes“, “The Hamptons” and “Astronaut” as singles from their EP.
