Kosheen are a British trip hop, electronic music group based in Bristol, England.
The name of the band is a combination of the Japanese words for “old” (古, romanized transliteration ‘ko’) and “new” (新, ‘shin’).
Fronted by Welsh-born singer/songwriter Sian Evans and Bristol dance natives Darren Decoder and Markee Ledge, Kosheen achieved international success with their debut single “Hide u”, which reached #6 in UK official chart.
Their debut album “Resist”, released in 2001, presents sparkling electronic breakbeat, deep chilled drum & bass torch songs and achingly beautiful downbeat melancholia allowing Sian’s emotive voice full range.
Two years later a second album titled “Kokopelli” came out. The first single from the album, “All in my head”, became a huge hit, reached #7 in UK chart and the album went “gold”.
Kosheen released other three albums “Damage”, “Independence” and “Solitude”.
In 2015 Sian left the band to pursue her solo career.
In recent years, she has collaborated with many artists and producers such as Dino Psaras, Dr. Meaker, Jolyon Petch, Jody Wisternoff and Brains.
She also penned “Hot right now” for Rita Ora, providing her with her first ever number 1 hit.
Former band mate Markee has released a solo album “Elevate”, a project that featured a selection of guest singers including Alys Be, Susie Ledge, and Jodie Elms, as well as guest producers including J Kenzo, Seven and Leon Switch.
