Lighthouse Family were a British duo formed in 1993 by vocalist Tunde Baiyewu and keyboardist Paul Tucker.
They met in the 1980’s while working in bars and quickly began writing and performing together.
A demo of “Ocean Drive” attracted the attention of Polydor Records A&R director Colin Barlow, who initially signed the band to a six-month development deal.
First single was “Lifted”, a pop chill-out song produced by Mike Peden, who worked with David Bowie, Tina Turner, Daryl Hall and many others.
The single reached number four in the UK singles chart.
Their debut album Ocean drive” was released on September 1, 1995. It has sold 6 times platinum, 1.6 million copies in the UK alone.
Two years later a second album titled “Postcards from heaven” came out. The album included “High”, their most successful single.
In 2001, Lighthouse Family released their last and third album “Whatever gets you through the day” before parting ways two years later.
Tunde Baiyewu released his self titled solo album in 2004 but it failed to impress the charts. A second solo album titled “Diamond in a rock” came to light in 2013.
Paul Tucker joined a rock band, The Orange Lights. The five member indie rock band released only one album “Life is still beautiful” in 2007.
Lighthouse Family reunited in 2010-11 to play their first live gigs for over ten years.
Comeback album “Blue sky in your head” was released in 2019.
